BIG JOLLY IS A BIG DEAL

The story goes that when Lyndon Johnson was losing his first congressional election he put out the word that his opponent was having sex with barnyard animals. An aide innocently warned Johnson that this wasn’t true. “Make the SOB deny it,” LBJ was said to have replied.

Thus goes Texas politics.....

The Harris County Republican Party lived up to the LBJ standard in the 2008 Republican Primary and especially in the Run-Off for Harris County District Attorney……….2012 is gearing up to have the same philosophy for the HCDA Republican Primary.

A local Texas political blogger by the name of Big Jolly is supporting Judge Pat Lykos, the Republican incumbent District Attorney, in her re-election bid for DA. He is being vilified for this endorsement by nearly all the folks who know and work with Lykos.

The anti-Lykos contention being: it is one thing to endure the arbitrary vindictive incompetence of an individual on a day-to-day basis at the workplace; however, it is quite another to reach a valid character and/or job performance assessment based on limited interviews by a political blogger in a controlled setting. Secondly, Big Jolly strongly supported Lykos’ obviously more qualified opponent, Kelly Siegler, in the 2008 Republican Primary ............recognizing,  at that time, Lykos’ blatant ineptitude.

It is no secret that I am in complete agreement with the folks who actually work with Lykos on a daily basis. Notwithstanding, I appreciate the foundation for Big Jolly’s misconception and his digging his feet in the sand on the issue.

When I first met Pat Lykos she was not at all what I expected based on the horror stories I had heard from the legions of folks who had to either work for or with her. She came across as ingratiating and appeared to be caring and empathetic with strong sound convictions. It was not until I observed her in an apolitical setting where her true character was exposed. Only then was I able to make a fair and accurate judgment on the real Pat Lykos…….…..the deception revealed was astonishing.

Big Jolly is someone Lykos will pander to for political favor; not someone who will ever work with or for Lykos. It is, therefore, very unlikely that Big Jolly will ever be privy to firsthand knowledge of who the real Pat Lykos is to experience a similar epiphany.

When Big Jolly comes up short in his assessment of Lykos he is skewered by Lykos detractors. His sincere effort to seek the truth is ignored and ridiculed; which ironically reinforces the misconception.

If prosecutors expect to persuade an “outsider” as to who Pat Lykos truly is and how her tenure has impacted the justice system in Harris County………..they ought to be able to present the facts in a MATURE respectful well thought out manner supported by the evidence--of which there is an overwhelming abundance.

Failure to try Lykos in the court of public opinion with the same fortitude and character we would expect from a veteran lead prosecutor in a Death Capital will not only spare Lykos; but also result in a death blow to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

So I submit that if in fact the goal is to restore integrity to the Harris County District Attorney's Office..........ADAs and others who are privy to Lykos' leadership failures act accordingly in their efforts to persuade Big Jolly to change course.

The greater good of Harris County and the GOP is more important than childish pouts .

Mike Anderson is a step backwards to the Rosenthal era.He is a bitter old man like you clinging to the past.Big Jolly is correct in supporting Judge Pat.Do you not recognizie what a mess Judge Pat inherited and how well she has handled things at the courthouse?Judge Pat needs 4 more years to finish house cleaning and then she can enjoy a well deserved retirement at her Brennan ranch.Judge Pat's endorsement will mean more in 2016 than Rosenthal's or Mr. Holmes'.I don't expect you to agree with the facts or to post my comment.Have a good day.

Comment #4 is obviously from rock star speller Don Hooper. That being said, a better candidate could've been found to challenge Patsy. Unfortunately, Murray's rants and raves and those of his ilk will not be enough to convince the voters that Pat needs to go. One wonders if Murray will still be obsessed with Pat 4 years from now. Murray has brought OC to a new level.

Hey Don are you hoping that Lykos will endorse your honey bunny in 2016? We plan on Lykos retiring well before then. And FYI, her farm is in Brenham. Brennan was a liberal Supreme Court Justice.

To "Conservative Values Count,"
Your arguments for giving Lykos four more years sound just like Obama's: "Give me four more years, so I can totally finish the job I've been doing of destroying everything."
