A REAL PROSECUTOR DOES THE RIGHT THING BECAUSE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO

Today's Houston Chronicle headline read: "Four Officers Shot Dead in Ambush".  Let's hope tomorrow's headline does not read: "Person of Interest in Police Shootings is the Real Victim".
The city of Lakewood in Pierce County Washington, where the officers were assassinated, is not known for it's tough stance on crime and punishment.  Maybe this will be their 911 awakening call at 3 AM?  This is an opportunity for the Pierce County DA to step up to the plate and not timidly capitulate to the flag of political corruptness; known in some circles as political correctness.

As a Houstonian, I am grateful on many levels that this cowardly slaughter did not occur in Harris County, Texas.  Selfishly, I have many friends in local law enforcement whose loss I would mourn greatly.  This in no way lessens the tragedy of those affected and is not intended to diminish or disrespect their loss.

If the shooter was to be tried in Harris County today, pleasing the defense bar and the local media would trump achieving a just outcome.
Doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do has lost favor at the Criminal Justice Center in Houston. The Harris County DA's office has lost its way.  No longer is Harris County thought of as the benchmark of excellence when it comes to the prosecution of crooks.  The no nonsense cutting edge prosecutors of  Harris County Texas have been neutered, fired or resigned.
The once well oiled machine of Texas justice has rusted over. Ironically, achieving justice in Harris County used to be so routinely successful that prosecutors instead of being recognized for their extraordinary ability, sacrifice and sense of justice were erroneously condemned as unethical and only concerned with "winning at all costs".
Well now a "losing is okay mentality" has replaced that former excellence.  A Batson-brandishing circus run by inept politicians and a biased media has changed "justice at all costs" to "political correctness at all costs".

So if Harris County suffers a similar atrocity in the days to come, who will be "the guy" who prosecutes the next shooter?
The Harris County Republican Party should be ashamed......

Hear-hear! If, or more likely when something horrible happens in Houston, it certainly won't be Lykos trying the case. And frankly, should Denise and Mark succeed in getting elected, the list of those capable is getting slim.

jigmeister,
I apologize for your comment not posting...I'm new at this and must have hit the wrong button or something. I'll try and trace back my steps and fix it.
To recap your thoughts--I too hope that Denise and Mark each win their judicial benches and agree that when they do there won't be much talent left at the HCDAO.
It's amazing how fast and thoroughly Pat Lykos has decimated the DA's office and concur that she won't be trying any tough cases after running out all the talent that could.

Criminal prosecution isn't that difficult when the facts properly speak for themselves. "When in doubt throw it out" instead of "winning at all costs" is the new and improved motto under Judge Pat. Judge Pat recognizes that it is far better to let 100 guilty people free than to punish a single innocent soul.
Every junior prosecutor should be able to handle any type of felony when guilt is, as it should be, unquestionable. A prosecutor's only real function is to fairly access punishment. How hard is that?

if that wasn't a satire you need a reality check. lol

Voters will continue to vote for whoever is best packaged as long as special interest money continues to pay their campaign way. The only way to put real issues back on the table is to force candidates to run with public funding only, no misleading commercials, no robo-calls and no lying leaflets or mail-outs. Everyone gets the same coverage and what distinguishes them are the principles they stand for and their independently verified qualifications.
It also wouldn't hurt to stop letting the media frame the debates and choose who is the best candidate.

Not to worry: With 21 votes (in your poll), Siegler's a shoo-in in 2012!

Anon 4:35,
Insult Kelly all you want behind her back, but why would she ever consider returning to what has become a cesspool?
You and the gang are lucky 20/20 hindsight is just a cliche. Kelly would win in a landslide if she ever ran again!

Black Ink,
It's funny how the Kelly bashers chime in whenever prosecutorial incompetence is pointed out under the Lykos rule. The "its all George W. Bush's fault" argument is sure wearing thin. I hope Kelly always intimidates those fools while she makes millions in private practice.

Seigler-nistas: Drink all the kool-aid you want, and don't, as typical ADA's, miss the point that those of us who do not worship Seigler must necessarily support Lykos.

Anon 4:38,
An ADA should never worship anyone nor should they blindly support incompetence.
Rather, an ADA must strive to do what is just, regardless of the consequences.
So if standing strong for justice equates to drinking Kelly Kool Ade, then fill my glass to the brim--because justice is greater than any one individual; a concept that you apparently fail to appreciate.

Lykos supporting anon 438:
What's your take on Leitner, Bridgewater, and Chow? Do you support those clowns as well? BTW, I supported JBH as well as Siegler (note the proper spelling) but never worshiped either one of them. How is it that I'm a Kool Aide junkie?

Black Ink: Drink up! The tabs on me! I do not buy into platitudes and lofty statements. You and the "justice" minions are legends in your own minds. For those of us who do see how justice has been corrupted by the DA "conviction addiction," we are neither impressed nor intemidated.

Anon: 9:47: You personify my point. The HCDAO should hire only ADAs who can read and comprehend English. The ethics issues will take time.
